


Robin Mackenzie Partnership (RMP) is a consulting division of Edinburgh Napier University. The practice specialises in acoustic design advice, environmental and industrial noise control, building performance assessments including air tightness testing and research. We also provide acoustic modelling, noise mapping and expert witness services and laboratory acoustic testing of materials.
We carry out over 500 projects per year, ranging from sound insulation testing to major architectural acoustic design projects like Quartermile in Edinburgh or Robust Details research. Our extensive client database includes the UK's largest construction companies, government, local authorities, leading architect practices, contractors, developers, building material manufacturers, housing associations and private clients.
The company was established in 1969 and since 1997 has been a consulting division of Edinburgh Napier University.
Appointment to the IOA Council
Richard Mackenzie is Principal Consultant of RMP Acoustics and Director of the Building Performance Centre, both based within the Institute for Sustainable Construction. Prof Sean Smith , Director of ISC stated “Richard’s nomination to the Council by the IOA members is superb news and recognises his extensive work and contributions within the acoustics sector and applied research on behalf of government departments, such as Defra, DECC and Scottish Government.”
The Institute of Acoustics is the UK's professional body for those working in acoustics, noise and vibration.
The range of interests of IOA within the world of acoustics is equally wide, embracing such aspects as aerodynamics, architectural acoustics, building acoustics, defence industries, electroacoustics, engineering dynamics, noise and vibration, hearing, speech, underwater acoustics, together with a variety of environmental aspects.
Richard will serve on the IOA Council for 2 years.
